Graveside memorial services for Gary W. Steele will be held at a later date at Grove Cemetery. A graveside memorial veterans service will be conducted at that time by Amvets Post 1994.
Friends may call 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home, Kenton.
He died at 9:19 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.
He was born Jan. 31, 1947 in North Carolina to Thomas and Vesta “Joyce” Steele. In April of 1966 he married Nancy Barry in North Carolina and they were divorced. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mike Steele and Mark Steele, both of Kenton; two brothers, Keith Steele of Kenton and Doug (Pam) Steele of Galion; two sisters, Faye (Jeff) Terrill of Rushsylvania and Linda (Ray) Lambert Jr. of Hilliard; and four grandchildren.
He worked for G.T.E. Telephone Company in Marion for 30 years. He was a 1965 graduate of Kenton Senior High School.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 428, Eagles Lodge of Kenton, VFW Post 3333 and Amvets Post 20. He served in the Navy on the USS Vesuvius during Vietnam.
He was an avid drag race fan and owned a ‘69 Camero.
