Gary A. Harbison, 69, of Piqua, died at 2:00 pm Friday October 7, 2016 at the Ohio State University Ross Heart Hospital. He was born February 23, 1947 in Upper Sandusky to the late Everett and Marcella (DeVene) Harbison. He married Linda Runser July 18, 1969 in Kenton and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Jason (Antrina) Harbison of Bowling Green, Kentucky; a daughter, Sarah Harbison of Sidney; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Harbison, Claire Wiseman; and a sister Kay (Edwin) Steiner of Kenton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Harbison; and a sister Linda Huffman.

Mr. Harbison was a 1965 graduate of Kenton High School and a 1969 graduate of Ohio Northern University. He continued his education by graduating from Wright State University in 1976 with a Masters Degree in Education and administration. He worked as an educator at Piqua High School teaching government and economics. He then went on to work as the curriculum director of Shelby County Schools and retired as the Assistant Superintendent in 2000. He was a very active member at Greene Street United Methodist Church helping with their food pantry and was the financial head of the capital fund drive. He spent time on the chaplaincy board at Copeland Corp. and was the head of Academia in Sidney. He also enjoyed fly fishing for trout in Montana. He was an extremely skilled woodworker making everything from furniture to grandfather clocks and was involved in the Dayton Woodworkers Association.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10 am Saturday October 15, 2016 at Greene Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Stewart officiating.
